Sports Books gamblers are wondering if this is at last the season that South Carolina under head coach Steve Spurrier is a big force in the SEC.



The Gamecocks have been touted as contenders before in the SEC but they have never genuinely lived up to move forward billing. The odds at the online sports books post South Carolina as 75-1 long shots to win the national championship this season but Spurrier has said this is the greatest group of athletes he has ever had at South Carolina.

Since they’re the reigning national victors, NCAA sports books odds favor Alabama in the SEC and for excellent reason. South Carolina is genuinely not given that much of an opportunity to win the SEC because they have not been a power under Spurrier. The Gamecocks were only 7-6 last season and that’s been the usual for South Carolina under Spurrier. The Gamecocks are only a slightly above average squad. Spurrier isn’t used to dealing with mediocrity but that’s been the situation with South Carolina.

This season, South Carolina will have their chance to make their mark in the SEC. This may at last be the year for the Gamecocks as the schedule sets up well for them. They should defeat Southern Mississippi in their home starter on September 2nd in a competition that can be viewed on ESPN. In another match they’re capable of winning, they then host Georgia. They then are going to be expected to defeat Furman before their 1st road test of the season at Auburn. If they can find a way to win that match they may be unbeaten for a big home match vs Alabama in early October. The problem for South Carolina versus the online sports books odds is that they still would need to win at Florida later in the season which is really hard to do. A road match to end the season at Clemson isn’t going to be effortless either.

Looking at South Carolina’s schedule, the potential for a big year and winning sports lines is there but there are plenty of land mines out there. South Carolina hasn’t shown the ability to win regularly vs the greatest teams and the SEC is the most difficult conference in college football. A winning record is likely for Spurrier this season but a division championship could be just out of reach.
